Nomeansno

OK, screw it. I'm tired of trying to track down a copy of Nomeansno's first 7", so I think that leaves this single as the only other recording that never ended up on a CD somewhere. I could be wrong. Nomeansno rock whether they're playing the more complex rhythms they're known for, or working some straight ahead scorchers like the two classic canadian punk (cover) songs contained on this 1991 Allied release. In 1987 I went to see DOA and was informed at the door that the show was now $7 (not $6 as the flyer had advertised) because another band had been added. I thought to myself, "Who the hell is Nomeansno?" but paid the cover since I had just driven 40 minutes to see the show. Holy crap. Rarely does a band I've never heard of absolutely floor me but this was one of those occasions (this was the lineup that still had Andy on guitar). Do yourself the favor if they play your town by not missing them. From vinyl, to a cassette that has been sitting in a box for 14 years, to mp3, to your ears......

I believe they are on tour now...Teir tour stop in Cleveland after their LP "Wrong" was the best concert I have ever seen. I very much miss Andy Kerr being in the band (he has a solo album) but they are still excellent live.

I know they have been touring Canada, but I did hear they might do a states tour later this year.

They are one of the best, most underrated bands ever.

This was one of the first punk 7 inches I bought back in 1991 or 1992, when I was first getting into punk rock. It's still my favorite thing they've released. Covers that are better than the originals!

They still put on a hell of a show, though the shows are better when they're the Hanson Brothers.

I'm pretty sure this was on "The Making of Allied One Two Three" CD comp that came out years ago. Since Allied ceased to be however, that cd would now be long out of print.

MXV is correct. The CD came out in 1995 (?) and it appears some distributors still have copies. Don't know if its currently being produced. Anyone know the status of the Wormmies 7"?? Ever reissued??

God, how I love these guys. Even playing covers they dust every other "punk" band, Here's a funny story- I got to see these guys live a couple times early on,'86-'87 ( I believe it was the "small parts isolated...." tour)and they completely blew my mind. When the "wrong" lp came out I listened to it 6-8 times a day for months. They finally toured for that record and I was so excited to see em'. I was going to see 3 shows, 3 days in a row with the third day being the mighty NoMeansNo shows. too much partying led to no sleep, so by the day of the NMN show, I was spent. Like a true fanatic, I went anyway, with about 4 hours sleep in 3 days. They played in the upstairs of a German restaurant called the Heidelberg in Ann Arbor Mi. About 12 people showed up to watch NoMeamsNo (sad huh?) and there were so few people there that I pulled a chair to the knee-high stage, put my feet up on the stage and proceded to fall asleep about 5 minutes into their set. I woke up only when my friend started kicking my chair along with their final song "the Tower". So.....stupid me, but I got to see em again some years later (minus Andy) and they still blew my mind.
Fuggin' great band and GREAT POST!!

Nomeansno must have found that very strange. I wonder if they tell other people the tale about playing once in Michigan "and there was this guy that slept through our set sitting right up at the front of the stage". I wonder if they made fun of you on stage while you were crashed out. I probably would have at least given you a little Sharpie mustache.
