Bomb Squad

Here's a Texas band with a serious UK fetish. They released two records that I'm aware of- an LP (more of an EP) called Children Of War and this 7" from 1982. I've seen this referred to as the Tomorrow The World Ends 7" since the cover says "Tomorrow The World Ends, There Is No Defense". The music is pretty primitive 2 or 3 chord punk rock but I like it and actually prefer it to the LP which has some annoying guitar overdubs. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the band or the label, Bouncing Betty, which I cross-checked on Flex and found no other releases for. Seems like people can always fill in the blanks for Texas bands so maybe they can with this one as well-

Sorry, no blank-filling from me. I've owned this record since 1983 and wasn't even clued in to what country the band was from until the rise of the internet. One of my favorite records in my collection, it's nice to know I'm not the only fan of the band.

I've never seen the LP but a few friends claim to own it.

Thank you!

Very nice one, I never heard this 7" before, great stuff!

The singers style reminds me very much of UK SUBS Charlie Harper.

BOMB SQUAD sound very english, really great!

I have the LP, I like it, very decent up tempo punk, not a mindblower, but no embarrasment for sure. Possibly the most Brit sounding vocalist on any US record of that era that I've heard. Pettibon sleeve to boot(Oi,Oi)!

My father was the drummer of Bomb Squad, Mark Fain! I have multiple records of the Children of War album. Sadly he died in 2001 of liver failure

Sorry to hear that. I like the LP as well, but I prefer the rougher feel of the 7".

I vaguely recall this band but not enough to even remember who they were or where they were from. What Texas town did they hail from exactly?

Hopefully, no one is offended by this post. I was in a hardcore band from Austin in the '80s and no one fucking remembers us, either!

Bomb Squad was a local Dallas/Irving band of MCA Records warehouse employees. Their lead singer/bassist was Jonathan Maslow, (also the songwriter) with Danny Poole (original) on drums and guitarist Marty rounding out the lineup. The label Bouncing Betty Records was Maslow's creation. They were inspired heavily by British Oi! bands and liked an English sound. They played at the legendary Hot Club in Oak Lawn and opened for the UK Subs and Dead Kennedys. They had one LP and one EP, before disbanding. There were actually t-shirts available at the time.

Lee Daly-Rebouche, formerly of MCA Records, and former manager.
