Doggy Style

Despite a few goofy moments, I've always really liked this 7" by Doggy Style (although not enough to seek out their LPs I guess since I've never heard any of them). Live their brand of fun posicore didn't go over that well with the grumpy St. Louis punks who just stared at them when the band tried to get everyone to pogo to "Donut Shop Rock". Oh well, if you've never heard this 7" you can decide for yourself. Here's 1985's Work As One-
Nymphomaniac
Be Strong
Emotions
Donut Shop Rock
Support And Belief
Ten On One

Their LP - Side By Side (on Flipside) and the one sided 12" - Live At Sun City (also on Flipside) are both excellent. Their LP - II (on XXX) and everything thereafter is not so good.

Ah I haven't heard this in a long time! The old loaned-it-out-and-never-got-it-back deal :(

Thanks man!

Show me the man who isn't dancing to "Donut Shop Rock" and I'll show you a man with no feet.

got a shirt from 'em once and drank a good chunk of their ration of beer once at the balboa theatre 'cause they were supposedly straight edge. nice guys. show it happened at was released on flipside video many moons ago....amazes me that brad is now in kottonmouth kings singin' all about the weed. almost as silly as pat dubar doing stoner rock......seem to remember their bass player died in a car crash many moons ago.....another fuzzy memory is that brian baker played in the band when they changed the name to "doggy rock" and tried to go the chili peppers route, with little success.....

I had no idea he was in Kottonmouth Kings. I heard the bass player was hit by a drunk driver- the irony. What was the horrible name of Dubar's band, didn't it have "funk" or something in the title? Emerson, apparently St. Louis is a town without feet (or humor from what I remember in those days).

name of dubar's stoner band was mind funk. got their "dropped" album some years ago for review and, after giggling my brains out at the irony of mr. uniform choice singing on an album with a sheet of acid as the cover, realized it was quite the steaming pile.....

what a crappy band! without FLIPSIDE, nobody would have heard of them. for people who find the lyrical content of 7 Seconds "too taxing".
I bought pot from someone in Mindfunk. It sucked too.

I can personally vouch that people knew of them before they were on Flipside. This Mystic 7" is how my friends and I found out about 'em. In the early/mid 80s, going to the local Peer Records and buying cheap singles was sort of like the primitive equivalent of downloading mp3s to check something out you'd never heard before. "Who this band? I wonder what they sound like? Only $2.50 for this EP?" *cha-ching* DS weren't my favorite band, but it's cool to hear this again after over 20 years.

Doggy Style was my favorite band when I was 14-15. Doggy Style II is a still a killer album. Side By Side is great too.

KILLER!Been looking for this...we liked them while punk was ending in LA, we saw them at Power Tools with the Red Hot Chili Peppers next door to Mcarthur Park. They were awesome!
Yeah the singer is brad X now in KMK.

"the singer is brad X now in KMK."

...and is the brother of Spike Xavier, singer of MInd Over Four, and brief bass player for Mind Funk. I think he was later in a band w/ Pat Dubar called "Corporate Avenger" too.

I loved these guys from the moment I first heard 'em in '85 or '86. Spike's band played our
house party in Ohio when I was in art school. That lasted about 10 min. 'til the cops showed upand broke it up. Then they took it down the street to a bar that was doing a local talent show. Mind Over Four
were definitley not local talent with their stacks of amps and leather. They kind of looked like Skid Row.
I always wished it'd been Doggy Style (any version) that night.

I used to listen to that first Mind Over Four record quite a bit, I liked it. I had some friends that toured with them for some time. I saw Mind Over Four open for Dag Nasty when Peter was singing for them, I think they were on tour together. Weird.

Doggy Style is one of the greatest bands ever!
The 7", Side by Side and live picture disc are gold.
Even 'The Last Laugh' is good, different, but good.

Doggy Style rules!

Favorite position, have to admit, it is doggy, but with him standing on the floor and me at the edge of the bed. I think I like it because he likes it so much.
