Ugly Americans

Since the super sweet 7 Inch Punk did a post recently on Ugly Americans I figured I'd do the same in case some folks haven't heard their pre rock/metal years. The Dream Turns Sour was released in 1984 on their own Discipline Records and I was first exposed to it on the tiny local college radio station (whose range basically ended at my house) that I've mentioned before. At the time I thought Dance Of Death was the absolute shit. In retrospect I may have overreacted, but this LP is still worth a listen and as far as I know its never been reissued-
Twisted Cross
Masked Minds
Sleepless Nightmare
Dance Of Death
Smurph Song
Young Businessman
Night On Redneck Mountain
The Bad, The Worse, And The Ugly Americans
Unrequited
Fearchild
Criminal Justice
Shadows, Shadows
Bob's Beach
Keep On Shooting
A nice summary of the early North Carolina scene, including info about Simon Bob and Ugly Americans can be found here.

I use to have this one on Blue Vinyl. Great record. Wish you posted the entire album, I miss it!

I've only seen blue vinyl copies, not sure if they pressed anything else. I'll see about posting the rest, feel free to contact me for a full LP directly if you want. It's difficult to determine if a record is going to be reissued so sometimes I'm reluctant to post full LPs. 7"s on the other hand get reissued on vinyl which people will probably buy a copy of anyway (7"s are still pretty cheap) or get reissued on CD with lots of extras or as part of a discography. Because of this posting 7"s doesn't feel like stepping on any toes. Anyone else have an opinion? Are these bands so long gone that it doesn't matter anymore?

Hey. thanks for putting this up on your blog. I'm Danny, the guitar player for the Ugly Americans.

We only had 1,000 of those albums made (there may have been a small second pressing, I don't remember), and about half were blue vinyl.

Anyway, there are no plans for a reissue, but who knows? I've been toying for years with the idea of a compilation.

Thanks for the comment Danny. This is the only full LP I posted and I debated putting it up here for a long time since I usually don't like making full records available outside of 7"s. A lot of people wanted to hear it since it seems pretty obscure even though the band went on to some bigger labels.

This was a really fun bad to see back in the 80's. All my friends and I went beserk over this first record. Good to hear again since my disk has long since disappeared. Mine was a black vinyl copy.

does anyone think porn is the only business still thriving during the credit cruch? I think many folks seek refuge in buying and wanking porn during the crunch
